In which cases are notarised documents necessary for NRI account opening?
Notarised documents are required if your PAN card is not already KYC verified as an NRI. If your PAN card KYC status is not verified as an NRI. In such cases, the PAN card, passport, Visa/Residence permit/ citizenship copy, and both Indian and overseas address proofs must be notarised. Acceptable notarisation must be carried out by one of the following authorities:
- Authorized officials of overseas branches of scheduled commercial banks registered in India.
- Public notaries.
- Court magistrates/judges
- Officials from scheduled commercial or multinational banks registered with India (see the RBI website for the complete list).
- The Indian embassy or consulate general in your country of residence. (Clients in India should visit their nearest notary office).
Each attesting authority should affix an original "Verified" stamp and include their name, designation, signature, and the date on the documents.
Notarised documents are not required if your current NRI address is already verified in your KYC records.
