What is a Haircut? Where do we check it?
When you pledge shares to receive trading limits or margin, the amount you get is not the full market value of your holdings. A haircut is a percentage deducted from the value of your pledged securities to account for market risks.
Example: If your shares are worth ₹100 and the applicable haircut is 20%, the lender will provide a limit of only ₹80. Here, the ₹20 difference is the haircut.
Important to Know
- Haircuts vary depending on the security.
- Exchanges update haircut values daily based on volatility and risk assessments.
