A Portfolio Investment Scheme (PIS) letter is a document issued under the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) PIS scheme, allowing Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to invest in shares of listed Indian companies.
NRIs can obtain a PIS letter from the bank where their NRE or NRO account is held. However, only specific designated branches of banks are authorized by the RBI to process PIS accounts.
